Levels Trainings
What are Levels Trainings and why should I take them?
The Orff Levels Trainings provided by AOSA are a way to help further your knowledge of the Orff teaching process.
Level I
Level I discusses the foundation of the Orff Process. You begin to learn how to teach the process and gain an understanding of the principles of the Orff philosophy. You begin basic compositions in the elemental style and learn a variety of strategies for teaching an Orff lesson which includes, singing, movement and instruments. There is an opportunity to learn recorder pedagogy as you will be learning to play and teach the Soprano recorder. Movement class is an excellent resource on how to incorporate movement/dance into a lesson.
Level II
Level II continues the study of the Orff process. There is a strong emphasis on pedagogy , as well as continued orchestration in the elemental style. You learn to compose a variety of accompaniment styles that are suitable for all ages of elementary students. In Level II, you focus on your skills as a recorder player, learning to play the Alto recorder and further your knowledge of movement pedagogy.
Level III
Level III encompasses all orchestration possibilities in the elemental style. You are provided the opportunity to teach for the class and are given feedback about your lesson plan structure and teaching style as in pertains to the Orff process. You are strengthened as a musician and as an educator, as you work to compose melodies and orchestrations in a variety of different harmonic structures. You are challenged as a recorder player, beginning the study of the Tenor recorder and your movement pedagogy is advanced as you are encouraged to use movement to teach orchestrations.
